Lisbon Treaty 2 - scarey tactics

We are all confused

On October 2nd 2009, the people of Ireland will be asked to vote on The Lisbon Treaty, strangley they were asked to vote on it before and decided against it but that was no use to European politicians so we must vote again. This happened with The Nice Treaty some years ago, though second time around we voted yes and it was accepted but then The European Parliament found that The Nice Treaty was unworkable and this was after they introduced The European Constitution, which France and Holland had voted against, So The European Constitution was rejected and The Nice Treaty having been forced on Ireland was unworkable and Lisbon one was rejected by Ireland after it had been decided not to ask the people of Europe to vote on it in case they didn't want it but Irish law dictates that the people of Ireland must be given a chance to vote on anything that will affect The Irish Constitution, so we had to be allowed to vote, we did, we voted no. Now we have to vote again because we got it wrong again .

Most Irish politicians are telling the population to vote yes but not why they should vote yes, they are spending a fortune telling us to "vote yes for jobs" or "vote yes for recovery" but there will be no jobs or recovery as a result of The Lisbon Treaty. The only other activity thay are engaged in is criticisuing the no side. I have never seen the the 3 main parties in Ireland so united on anything but they stand together urging us to vote yes.. I want it on record that I think that there is some kind of reward for them and them alone if Ireland votes yes to Lisbon 2, otherwise they would clearly outline the advantages and disadvantages of The Lisbon Treaty 2 and let us make up our mind on the facts, no facts are forthcoming !

This a free vote, a democratic vote but so was the first one and we "got it wrong"

Below I have copied from www.lisbontreaty 09.ie

The section on The Citizens Initiative

The Lisbon Treaty proposes that a citizens' initiative would allow for at least one million citizens of a significant number of member states to ask the Commission to bring forward proposals on a particular issue to implement the Treaties. The Commission would be obliged to consider the proposal. The details of how this would operate have yet to be decided.

Please take note of the fact that it will take " at least one million people from a significant number of member states (no actual details) and even then The EU Commission would only be obliged to "consider the proposal"

But if you read througfh the treaty (you will need a reading age of around 200, even a law degree won't help) you will often see the phrase "in certain circumstances" and as above " The details of how this will operate have yet to be decided"

The Wall Street Journal has accused the yes campaigners of scaremongering and has admitted that the decision on October 2nd should be an informed, one by The irish People and to that end it has promised to display sections of the treaty on its web site over the next week or so but it apologises in advance if "some of them are incomprehensible". so now how complicated do you think this treaty might be to read ?

I cannot give a bunch of politicians carte blanche on the future of Europe when they have not made their plans clear and leave this treaty open to change as they see fit, I hate the fact that we have a mindless collection of fat cats running Ireland, not one of whom is worth the money they are rifling out of the state purse. I honestly have not met one person who either understands The Lisbon Treaty or who is willing to support it but somehow, I think it could be carried on October 2nd. If that is the case we have just kissed democracy goodbye .

One final word, if this hub comes to the attention of any Irish TD or Senator who can convince me or explain to me in clear fact based language, please use the comments facility below
